HMRC Inheritance Tax : Applying for Probate/Confirmation

What to do when the estate is not an excepted estate

If you find that the deceased's estate does not qualify as an 'excepted estate', you will need to fill in a full Inheritance Tax Account using form IHT200. You can download the forms you need from this site by right clicking on the links below and choosing the save option.

We recommend that you download form IHT200 (PDF 132K) and the notes (PDF 202K) to help you fill it in first. Together, these forms and booklets will help you to work out what other forms you will need. You can then download them from this site. If you have the right software installed on your computer, you will be able to fill the form(s) in on-screen and save a copy to your hard disk.

If you do not want to download the forms, you can order the form IHT200 and the other forms you may need by telephoning our helpline.

In Scotland, you will need to fill in both the Inventory (to obtain Confirmation) and an Inheritance Tax Account on form IHT200.
