In-year Employer CD-ROM updates - internet downloads

If you have installed your Employer CD-ROM onto your PC you can now download updates and improvements to certain sections.

Please note: These updates apply only to the current Employer CD-ROM. They will not replace a previous edition of the Employer CD-ROM.

Current updates

• Employer CD-ROM 2008 updated edition P11 Calculator – Calculating Student Loan deductions
  
  We have identified an issue with the updated HMRC Employer CD-ROM, which will affect the small number of employers who use the P11 tax/NICs Calculator to work out their employees’ student loan deductions. The issue will only affect calculations where an employee is having Student Loan deductions made from their gross pay, and their gross pay is different for National Insurance (NI) purposes when compared to tax.
  
  Currently the P11 Calculator is using the gross pay for tax figure to calculate the Student Loan deduction, whereas it should use the pay for NI. In most cases, the gross pay for tax and NI are the same. However, if you have an employee whose gross pay is different for NI purposes please contact the Online Services Helpdesk for further advice on 0845 60 55 999 between 08.00 and 20.00 seven days a week. Or you can email them at helpdesk@ir-efile.gov.uk.
  
  Very few employers are expected to be affected by this, as it will only apply to those who use the CD-ROM calculator rather than payroll software and only then, where employees are paid in a manner that creates a difference between gross NICable pay and gross taxable pay. Please note that the existing freestanding student loan calculator remains correct.
