Business Support Teams (face to face advice)

Our local Business Support Teams provide payroll support to new and small employers. We can offer you detailed advice on all aspects of payroll, including:

  • What you need to do
  • The deadlines you need to meet
  • The forms you need to fill in
  • The records you need to keep


We will talk you through any problems you may be experiencing and we can also, if you wish, check that your payroll systems process information accurately and reliably.

There is no charge for this service. And advisers will see you at a place that suits you.

Workshops
We have arranged a series of half-day workshops designed especially for new and small employers and businesses. We cover the following topics:

Paying your employees
You will learn how to work out your employees' tax and National Insurance, what records you need to keep and where to go for further help.

Paying Directors
We will tell you about the special rules for paying Directors. And we will explain higher rates of tax and 'K' codes.

Paying expenses and giving benefits to your employees
We will cover the most common types of expenses and benefits - and we explain what tax and National Insurance will be due.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
You will learn how to pay SSP to eligible employees. And what you need to know if you operate your own sick pay scheme.

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
You will learn how to pay SMP to eligible employees - and what to do if an employee is not eligible.

Becoming self employed
We will explain how to work out your tax and National Insurance and what records you need to keep.

The Construction Industry Scheme
Designed for Building Contractors. You will learn how the new ID card and voucher scheme works.

Tax Credits and Collecting Student Loans
You will learn how to pay tax credits to your employees and what records you need to keep. We will also cover what you need to know about collecting Student Loan repayments.

End of Year Returns (runs January - April each year)
We will explain how to complete your End of Year Returns - the forms you need to send to the Inland Revenue and the dates they are due.
